About the job...

We are seeking a dedicated Child and Family Consultant to join our inclusive, compassionate and friendly team based in Cairns. This position is full-time (temporary contract until 30/06/2023)

The Child and Family Consultant is responsible for delivering an outreach model of therapeutic case coordination to families caregivers, kids and young people within the Individual Support Packages (ISP) program.

The Individual Support Packages (ISP) program works in partnership with Child Safety to provide holistic trauma-informed support to children in the child protection system.

Key responsibilities…

  • Use a trauma-informed model to support children and their ecological networks to achieve better outcomes by:
    • Completing thorough psycho-social assessments
    • Implement tailored evidence-informed interventions directly to children to cater to individual need
    • Provide specialist attachment-based coaching and mentoring to carers and stakeholders
    • Supporting case plan goals as determined by Child Safety and the ISP Practice Lead.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with all ISP and partner agencies for the benefit of the service, children and the families.
  • Participate in Act for Kids performance development processes through monthly and annual meetings with your line manager.

About you... 

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (social work, human services, allied health, psychologist)
  • Professional registration (if required)
  • Understanding of the impacts of trauma on child development and family functioning.
  • Expertise and understanding of:
    • Child development and assessing functioning and wellbeing of children and young people who have experienced trauma and cumulative harm.
    • Family functioning, parenting and attachment, including assessing family relationships and parenting capacity and functioning.
  • At least five years’ experience working with children, young people and their families who have been impacted by trauma or have experienced abuse and neglect, or experience working in similar roles.
  • High level of cultural awareness and experience working with families from different cultural backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-agency and multi-disciplinary team and to cultivate a collaborative strengths-based approach to working with families.
  • Well-developed communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills.

About the pay...

  • Position is classified Level 6 under the SCHCADS award;
  • Salary range is $92,704 - $96,805 plus 10% superannuation (pro-rata for part-time)
