About us...

Act for Kids is a prominent provider of free prevention, professional therapy and support services for children who have suffered abuse and support for families at risk. With over 25 centres nationally, we have supported thousands of children and their families for more than 30 years. In 2019 - 2020 we provided services to 44,894 people, including over 29,000 children.

Our unique multidisciplinary teams provide integrated therapy, sexual abuse counselling, safe houses in remote Indigenous communities, information, advice and referral services, intensive family support and early learning centres designed for children with additional development needs to ensure we set them up for success at school.

About the job...

We are seeking a dedicated Speech Pathologist to join our team based in Wooloowin. 

This position is available as either full-time or part-time, fixed term to 31 January 2022. Extension of employment contract beyond January 2022 is subject to the continued successful government funding of the program. Operating since 2019, the SDSS program is a strong and successful community based program with strong possibility for funding renewal.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide outstanding therapeutic service to children and young people within the Specialist Disability Support in Schools (SDSS) Program.
  • Enhance psychosocial and developmental outcomes for children and young people impacted by trauma.
  • Provide specialised developmental and trauma-informed consultancy to team members, parents, carers and across the SDSS program and school personnel.
  • Conduct high quality, trauma-informed therapeutic services to children, in both individual and group settings.
  • Encourage and strengthen supportive relationships between children and the key adult caregivers

About you...

  • A tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology
  • Membership with Speech Pathology Australia and hold Certified Practising Speech Pathology (CPSP) status. 
  • At least two years’ experience working with children, young people and their families who have been impacted by trauma or experienced abuse and neglect, or more than two years’ experience working in similar role.
  • Ability to complete high quality and rigorous discipline specific assessments and reports.
  • Experience in collaborative assessment and goal setting within a multi-disciplinary team. 
  • Clinical and therapeutic understanding of the impacts of trauma on child and family functioning and knowledge of current trauma treatment trends.

About the pay...

  • Position is classified Level 6.1 – 6.3 under the SCHCADS award.
  • Salary range is $92,704 -$96,805 plus 9.5% superannuation (pro-rata for part-time).
